Today’s news, Man’s Quest for a New Dress Shirt,
It’s a story on the innovation and adventure of new dress 2022.
When Ben Perkins lived in Hong Kong at the age of 13, he had this thought.
He wondered if it was because he was used to the exercise shorts he wore for football and felt their constricting comfort on him,
But then when he put on a dress shirt for an hour-long meeting in the air-conditioned building it felt suffocating.
One day, he came up with the idea to make dress shirts out of the same material as his soccer jersey.
His plan is to create a company and name it “Wicka-Sweat”, he also created the logo.
As for contacting manufacturers of sweatpants, he asked his older brother Derek who speaks Mandarin.
China is quickly becoming the global leader of breathable artificial athletic jerseys.
It’s next door, so I can just go there for other parts of my life.
After contacting a few of these companies, he found out that their minimum order quantity is 5,000
Some people may know the story of Ben Milan, who was a successful tailor in NYC until he had to close down his own business because he couldn’t afford large quantities of fabric.
After only a year, Ben was so good at soccer that the University of Kentucky gave him an athletic scholarship.
To keep playing soccer at a high level and to stay close to his family, he interrupted his academic studies for a year-long mission.
He was called to the Philippines where it is as hot and humid as Hong Kong.
He doesn’t mention feeling cold even once.
Noticing the inconvenience of wearing a tie and dress shirt while in the missionary profession, he silently suffered for 2 years.
When he returned home and saw his old clothes that looked shabby, dull & stale, he came up with his new idea for Wicka-Sweat clothes.
“A lot of missionary and other youth going out on service might benefit from an athletic dress shirt,”
He says. “I’m already at Utah Valley University, where I also received a scholarship in soccer.”
He also sells a new line of dress shirts on the side.
He was able to fund his new business via Kickstarter and was able to invest most of the $20,000 in a product.
He stored his dress shirts at home in his bedroom and marketed them both online and through word of mouth.
When Morrison traced his sales back to their original purchase, he found that a different relative had always been involved.
But then, a missionary mom in Ogden heard about these tropical-friendly shirts.
she needed 10 of them for her son who was leaving for Barranquilla, Colombia, in only two days.
Ben drove to Ogden to personally deliver the order, and once he arrived he found that all the Barranquilla missionaries loved his shirts.
Soon enough they were in high demand, which made the word of them spread among the rest of the world.
Greg was getting really good feedback from his part-time business, so he and his friend decided to try making it their full-time gig.
When Greg graduated from UVU in 2018, they made the decision to give it a shot.
Their goal is to make the world’s most comfortable dress shirt, which is made from man-made and synthetic materials.
These properties allow for a lot of excellent features like breathability, stretchiness, and wrinkle-free seamlines.
In addition to this practicality, they also have an added humanitarian twist by liberating materials that would otherwise end up in landfills
Have you recently read in the newspapers or on social media about all the plastic that is contained in long-term waste storage (landfills), as well as litter on sidewalks and streets.
We thought about it and realized we already had enough plastic. We’ve been recycling our plastic waste for a little while now and it might cost us a bit more money in the short term.
But we feel like being mindful of the environment doesn’t stop at our t-shirts. Every little bit helps in contributing to environmental degradation.
We are so much more than just a dress shirt company.
We want to make the best dress shirt for the world!
They changed their name from Wicka-Sweat to Collar.
Their company is made of athletic jerseys, which are marketed with an effective logo and slogan.
They make the most of the symbol for this, which is a clever way to go about it.
Each year they’ve been open, even during the pandemic year of 2020, the business has increased by 70% and there are now 8 more full-time employees.
Besides Ben & Jordan, who have been at it since the beginning, there are now 8 more full-time employees.
Ninety percent of sales are made online and the remaining 10% occur in physical stores.
However, we’re hoping to expand to national chains in the future.
They have expanded their operations into new markets such as ties and socks, as well as making clothes available to the general public.
‘Initially, missionaries were the dominant group’, Ben says. “We’ve seen a lot of growth in urban areas, Washington, D.C., New York City, and Los Angeles.”
We’ve been struggling to keep up with demand, but this is a good problem to have. As we keep growing, there will hopefully be enough clothing for as many men as possible.
The U.S. population is predominantly male and we want every man who wants it to have the opportunity to wear our clothes in the future too.”
It’s been 26 years since he first dreamed of being a musician and now, his dream has finally come true.
With that realization, he can’t help but smile.
The company was created because the founder hates wearing dress shirts and this is reflected in their choice of clients.
He estimates that most men feel the same way.
